Worked example
For an area 30 ft long, 12 ft wide, and 4 in deep, the base volume is 120 cubic feet, or 4.44 cubic yards. Adding 10% overage gives 4.89 cubic yards, so the practical order quantity is 4.9 cubic yards.
Using the all-purpose gravel profile at 1,680 kg/m³, that order weighs approximately 6.93 US tons. The density is an estimate, so ask the supplier how they convert volume to weight for the specific product.
