A 50 × 12 ft paving area at 3 in

The compacted volume is 150 cubic feet. Using the 2,325 kg/m³ estimating density gives about 10.88 US short tons before overage. With 5% overage, the purchase quantity rounds to approximately 11.5 US short tons.

Measurement guidance

Use the specified compacted thickness

  1. Measure the paved footprint. Exclude areas that will not receive asphalt.
  2. Enter compacted finished thickness. Loose material depth before rolling is not the calculator input.
  3. Use the producer's mix density. The default is an estimating value; actual job-mix density can differ.
  4. Confirm ordering and truck limits. Plants commonly sell by mass and may impose minimum loads.
