Calculation assumptions
  • Spacing positions are ceil(wall length ÷ entered spacing) + 1, including both ends of each separate wall section.
  • Regular interior studs exclude the two boundary positions; the entered end-stud count replaces those boundary members.
  • Openings, corners shared between walls, cripples, jacks, kings, headers, blocking, plates, and cut optimization are not inferred.
  • The user selects stud dimensions and spacing; no structural adequacy or code compliance is represented.

Spacing positions

ceil(wall length ÷ spacing) + 1 includes both boundary positions.

Interior and end studs

Remove the two boundary positions, then add the entered end-stud assumption for every separate wall section.

Purchase count

Add waste to the combined stud count and round upward to whole studs.

Worked example

A 16 ft wall at 16 in spacing

Twelve spacing intervals create 13 positions. That is 11 interior positions plus two entered end studs. With 10% overage, the estimate rounds up to 15 studs.

Layout guidance

Spacing is an input, not a recommendation

  1. Measure each equal run. Separate walls each receive their own ends.
  2. Enter on-center spacing. RightQty counts intervals without choosing the spacing.
  3. State end members. Use the confirmed corner/end detail from the project design.
  4. Handle openings elsewhere. Use Wall Framing when explicit additional opening members and plates are needed.
