  • Panel exposure means the total installed face height of one full panel, not an individual lap projection.
  • The panel estimate divides waste-adjusted net area by panel length × usable exposure; it does not optimize cuts or reuse offcuts.
  • Carton coverage is optional and product-specific; packaging is never inferred from a manufacturer-wide default.
  • Starter strip, J-channel, corners, trim, fasteners, fastening schedules, and installation approval are intentionally excluded.

Net wall area

Add rectangles and triangular gables, then subtract entered openings.

panel length × total installed exposure height.

Apply waste to net area, divide by panel face or exact carton coverage, and round upward.

Worked example

A 12 ft panel with 8 in total exposure

One panel covers 8 square feet. For a 30 × 10 ft wall less 40 square feet of openings, 10% waste produces 286 square feet and therefore 36 panels. Cartons are shown only when exact carton coverage is entered.

Product-label guidance

Exposure and packaging vary by profile

  1. Use total panel exposure. A multi-lap panel's usable face may include several courses.
  2. Confirm panel length. Enter the installed product dimension, not a generic assumption.
  3. Copy carton coverage. Packaging can vary between products and manufacturers.
  4. Plan accessories separately. Openings and corners need system-specific trim decisions.
Vinyl-specific boundary

The result is area-based panel coverage, not a course-by-course elevation layout. Starter strip, J-channel, corners, utility trim, fasteners, expansion clearances, and installation approval are omitted because they depend on the selected system and building.
